Legal Center — Commitments & Policies

Langa Library is built to help people discover, read, preserve, translate, discuss, and contribute to books and knowledge. This Legal Center gathers the rules, commitments, and contact routes that govern those activities.

Our core commitments

Reader-first access

We aim to make books and knowledge easier to discover and use while respecting copyright, privacy, attribution, cultural context, and the rights of other people.

Privacy of reading

Reading histories, private shelves, notes, searches, and personal books can reveal intimate intellectual interests. We treat them as private by default and do not sell private reading data to advertisers or data brokers.

Respect for intellectual work

Authors, translators, editors, illustrators, researchers, librarians, digitizers, metadata contributors, and community creators deserve proper credit and rights-aware treatment.

Transparent automation

Search ranking, recommendation, classification, metadata matching, translation, read-aloud, transcription, and other automated features may make mistakes. We identify automated or unverified outputs where practical and provide correction or review channels.

Proportionate governance

Rules should be applied consistently, with notice and an opportunity to appeal where circumstances permit. Urgent action may be necessary for serious legal, safety, privacy, security, or operational risks.

Long-term preservation

Preservation is a public-interest goal, but it does not eliminate copyright, privacy, confidentiality, attribution, cultural sensitivity, or security obligations.

Which document controls?

The Terms of Service govern ordinary use of the Services. A feature-specific policy applies to that feature. If two documents conflict, the more specific provision ordinarily controls for the relevant feature, except that mandatory law always prevails.

Public review status

These drafts are public for consultation but are not yet effective. They must not be used as the final Chrome Web Store privacy disclosure or as binding Langa Library terms until product behavior, vendors, retention, operator records, and legal review have been completed.
