Community Guidelines
Langa Library welcomes readers, translators, artists, researchers, librarians, reviewers, and metadata contributors. Disagreement is permitted; harassment, manipulation, piracy, and abuse are not.
1. Core principles
Respect people. Criticize works and arguments rather than degrading individuals. Credit intellectual work. Contribute in good faith. Protect reader privacy. Preserve historical and cultural context. Improve the library rather than vandalizing it.
2. Reviews and criticism
Reviews may be positive, negative, scholarly, or informal. Do not threaten people, coordinate false ratings, fabricate quotations, deceptively review your own work, conceal paid promotion, or target a user across discussions.
3. Harassment
Credible threats, stalking, repeated targeted abuse, sexual harassment, coercion, doxxing, harmful impersonation, coordinated harassment, and repeated unwanted contact are prohibited. Disagreement alone is not harassment.
4. Hate and dehumanization
Historical or literary quotation may be discussed for documentary, critical, or educational purposes. Users may not promote exclusion, inferiority, dehumanization, or violence against protected groups, direct slurs at another user, or recruit for violent extremist organizations.
5. Violence and self-harm
Literary and historical discussion is allowed. Credible threats, encouragement of imminent serious harm, operational assistance intended to cause harm, or content aimed at coercing a vulnerable person are prohibited.
6. Sexual exploitation
Sexual exploitation, non-consensual intimate material, sexual content involving minors, grooming, trafficking facilitation, predatory contact, and sexual harassment are prohibited.
7. Privacy
Do not publish another person's home address, private contact details, identifiers, financial data, medical information, correspondence, precise live location, private reading activity, notes, or personal books.
8. Copyright and attribution
Do not upload pirated books, copy protected covers or translations, submit copied reviews, remove credit, forge permission, or reproduce excessive protected excerpts.
9. Metadata contributions
Corrections should use reliable evidence where practical. Mark uncertainty for review. Do not invent facts, insert promotional keywords, merge different people without evidence, remove contributors for personal reasons, or repeatedly reverse verified decisions without new evidence.
10. Translation contributions
Identify whether a translation is original human work, machine-assisted, edited machine output, historical, or quoted from an existing translation. Do not conceal copying or fabricate passages.
11. Spam and manipulation
Repeated irrelevant links, review bombing, fake engagement, undisclosed commercial promotion, automated account abuse, queue flooding, deceptive downloads, fraud, and sale of ratings, credit, or access are prohibited.
12. Impersonation
Pseudonyms may be allowed, but users may not impersonate another user, author, translator, rights holder, publisher, employee, moderator, institution, or estate. Parody and tribute accounts must be clearly identified where confusion is likely.
13. Fabrication
Do not deliberately publish fabricated quotations, false book records, invented biographies presented as fact, forged evidence, fake rights claims, manipulated historical documents, or artificial reviews presented as genuine experience.
14. Sensitive materials
Preservation of difficult historical material is not endorsement. Add context, avoid gratuitous repetition of slurs, distinguish documentation from advocacy, respect affected communities, and do not erase uncomfortable history.
15. Younger users
Do not exploit, groom, sexualize, threaten, or solicit unnecessary personal information from minors. Adults must avoid secretive, manipulative, or unnecessary private contact with younger users.
16. Reports and enforcement
Report concerns through the in-product tool or langalibrary.team@gmail.com. Depending on severity and context, we may take no action, request clarification, add context, reduce visibility, remove content, lock a discussion, revert metadata, warn, restrict features, suspend, revoke privileges, terminate, preserve evidence, or refer a matter for legal or safety review.
17. Appeals
Significant decisions may be appealed to langalibrary.team@gmail.com within 30 days. Include the affected item, decision, reasons, new evidence, and requested outcome. Where practical, a different reviewer should decide the appeal.
