Young Users & Child Safety Policy

Langa Library is primarily designed for users aged 16 and older. Public books may be read without an account where appropriate, but account, community, upload, messaging, and contributor features may have higher or additional requirements.

1. Age and guardian involvement

Where a user cannot legally consent, a parent or guardian must be involved. We may request age confirmation or guardian authorization using a proportionate method.

2. Privacy defaults

Younger-user accounts should use private profiles, limited discoverability, restricted direct contact, conservative data collection, no behavioral advertising, and clear controls. Precise location and unnecessary sensitive information should not be collected.

3. Community safety

Adults must not groom, exploit, sexualize, threaten, or solicit unnecessary personal information from minors. Secretive, manipulative, or unnecessary private contact is prohibited.

4. Content

Libraries contain mature historical and literary material. Age-appropriate labels, context, filters, or guardian controls may be used, but preservation of a work does not necessarily mean endorsement or suitability for every age.

5. Contributions

A younger person may contribute only under the applicable age, consent, licensing, attribution, and privacy rules. Public use of a real name, portrait, biography, school, location, or portfolio requires special care.

6. Parent and guardian requests

Contact langalibrary.privacy@gmail.com to ask about a younger user's account or data. We may verify identity and relationship before disclosing or changing information.

7. Urgent safety

Credible immediate danger may be escalated to appropriate safety services or authorities where lawful and necessary.
